Sydney’s 2026 “Deep Tea” event: Momentum
“Appreciation. Reflection. Clarity.”
That’s the ethos of Deep Tea.
Deep Tea events are organised by Cathy Zhang (tea scientist, owner of the elegant tea bar, Ms Cattea), and Adeline Teoh (writer, Sydney’s most supportive tea enthusiast and founder of The Sydney Tea Meet Up).
Deep Tea “is a movement that centres tea appreciation to acknowledge its contribution to history, culture, philosophy and art”.
As well as deeper contemplation, Deep Tea seeks to link “drinkers to ancient practices and modern connections all around the world”.
I’m pleased to be a part of this year’s theme - “Momentum”; moving onwards during the cold Winter of the Southern Hemisphere.
Date: Sunday 5 July 2026
Location: Kaolin, Alexandria
Time: 8.30 am to 5 pm, with sessions throughout the day.
This year’s Deep Tea brings together some Sydney tea folk:
Matt from Tea Angle (a local, Sydney-owned and operated tea supplier, I especially love their warming Phoenix Honey Orchid Red for cold Winter days), Uncle Rob from the Urasenke School, Cenk from Tea and Tantra, Lucie from Tea in Season, Lulu from Sydney Tea Hut, and Ms Cattea herself, Cathy.
I’ll be offering 2 Tea Meditation sessions: 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm.
Tea as a mindful ritual for meditative self-care.
The guidance will invite a mind-body connection. Himalayan singing bowls as a cocoon to rest the Beginner’s Mind. Gently moving into Noble Silence, grounding into the 5 Senses: sound, sight, smell, touch and finally, taste.
There are many ways to meditate. Tea is one way.
And tea like music, is vast and deep and rich. So many tones, speeds, and genres to choose from.
Deep Tea may offer a doorway to explore the many ways to enjoy tea. Hope you’ll join us.
